Electrical/Controls Engineer

Industrial Tool Inc. is seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to work within our Automation Team to support advanced automation projects. This person will work to define new manufacturing technologies, develop the technology with our mechanical design group, develop and install the control architecture, and provide troubleshooting. This includes electrical/controls design, programming, debug of hardware and software, installation, and operator training. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to operate with minimum oversight and have a full understanding of controls engineering with the ability to solve most problems on their own.

This person is an experienced automation software programmer and control system designer, experienced in multiple software platforms including but not limited to Allen Bradley Control Systems, Robotics, and Vision Systems. Experienced with various hardware devices (PLCs, motion controllers, vision systems, I/O systems, and field devices typically found on automated machinery), and the techniques required for interface, communication, and control.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop work cells and automation that ensure quality and optimize manufacturing efficiency.
  • Design machine control systems using AutoCAD Electrical that allows for effective control system implementation.Generate schematics, I / O list, BOMs for electrical build.
  • Program and prove - out the cell or machine to meet / exceed the scope of the project and meet all customer requirements.
  • Experience desired:
    • Allen Bradley PLC and HMI controls experience – Rockwell Automation Studio 5000
    • Servo Motion – Rockwell Automation Kinetix
    • Machine Vision & Vision - guided motion – Keyence & Fanuc iRVision
    • Thorough experience with PLC programming logic and motion control
    • 6 - axis FANUC robots
    • Industrial networking protocols: Ethernet I / P, Modbus TCP
    • Industrial sensors, servo presses, laser marking equipment
  • Lead custom automation projects including cost estimates, project development and schedule.
  • Conduct Safety Risk Assessments for new /custom equipment and automation cells.
  • Proficiency in electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical design, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Help with equipment design, and recommendation of sensors and safeguarding.
  • Troubleshoot issues with automated equipment and develop solutions when issues arise.
  • Research and implement new technology to continuously improve.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • 5 years of Electrical Engineering/Controls
  • Must have intimate knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Must have basic knowledge of the relationship of parts in an assembly.
  • Must be able to understand mechanical and software needs and integrate those needs into electrical designs.
  • Must have applicable knowledge of the UL 508A, NEC, NFPA 79, and CE code.
  • Must have strong programming skills.
  • Must have experience with the specification and programming of vision systems.
  • Must have intimate knowledge and experience with analog and digital inputs and outputs.
  • Must have experience and knowledge in applying basic mathematics, trigonometry, and algebra skills.

Fixture Building/Tool Maker

The position must work effectively and efficiently with the engineering and production managers and with other members the production team on any issues or concerns that arise providing supportable solutions on a timely basis.

Ensures customer satisfaction of specification solution by managing the details of cost, timing and business needs. This position must bring customer satisfaction by being responsive and showing appropriate sensitivity to the customer needs yet not compromising ITI business needs.

This position requires teamwork, communications and interaction with sales, engineering, production, purchasing and other members of cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new and existing products. The communication called upon will be for appropriate balance, excellent written and verbal communications and responsiveness as dictated by the situation. This position reports to the Production Manager. The position is a key staff, non-management role.

CNC Application Engineer

Industrial Tool, Inc. (ITI) is seeking an Application Engineer to work within our Engineering Team to support advanced machining and automation projects. This person will work to develop new manufacturing processes with our mechanical design team and implement with a high level of accuracy. ITI is an industry leader in providing full “Turnkey Solutions” for a very diverse customer base. Application Engineers at ITI are critical to defining the parameters and scale of a project in the quoting stage of a project by building a machining time study specific to the customers part(s). This includes identifying a workholding scheme, understanding critical geometric tolerancing of the parts, the necessary cutting tool package, and specifying the required machine tool to be used (including machine options). Once a project becomes active the Application Engineer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working with the mechanical engineer to understand fixture access requirements, finalize a cutting tool package, order necessary tools, build tools, program tool paths, cut and measure/qualify first article parts, runoff the system, and install/runoff/training onsite at the customers facility.

Responsibilities:

Robotics/Automation Engineer

We are looking for an experienced and talented Automation Engineer to help our team develop safe and effective integrations of FANUC robots with CNC and custom-built equipment to perform load (raw materials) & unload (finished parts) tasks. Engineering efforts may include software, electrical, and mechanical safety. Must be capable of basic to complex configurations and able to integrate electronic and mechanical hardware with software products to meet the functional criteria of customer specifications. Programming includes robotic programming (Fanuc preferred) and PLC / HMI program modification for automated systems

Position Expectations:

  • Create, write, and optimize robotic programs from concept to completion; 80% Logic and 20% Motion.
  • Create, write, and optimize vision programs.
  • Optimize PLC and HMI programs.
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed for all modifications to the original design.
  • Assists with the assembly of special projects, upgrades, or retrofits.
  • Performs ordering and expediting materials for projects and customer service orders.
  • At all times ensures work area is clean and orderly.
  • Requires travel to customer site; locally, out-of-state.
  • Ensures all activities are done safely and follows procedures and guidelines when working in a production environment.
  • Continuously reviews current processes and procedures that make it easy for internal/external customers to do business with department/division.
  • Ensures processes and procedures allow efficiency in work performed.
  • Based on business need, assists, supports and/or performs other job functions within department or other work areas within scope and ability.
  • Responsible for maintaining current technical, interpersonal, and communication skills through continuous development. Progressive development of skills should be cultivated through further education, seminars, company training and other external resources such as reading material.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering field and/or equivalent experience in education and training.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in programming robotic systems, Logic 80%, Motion 20%, and troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Vision programming preferred
  • Have strong working knowledge and experience of, Allen Bradley PLC, and HMI, etc.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior level programmers
  • A valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and the ability to legally operate a vehicle for company business.
  • Demonstrated application and commitment of customer satisfaction.
  • Good interpersonal oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional conduct when dealing with customers, peers, builder representatives and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated self-starter and effective planning and organization skills.

  • Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and evening hours as demanded by project deadline requirements.
