Problem:

  • Kemco needed to completely machine, deburr, wash, and inspect a minimum of 6 parts per hour
  • Kemco needed a completely unattended system

Solution:

  • 2 Vertical CNC machine tools-milling
  • 1 CNC Lathes
  • Integrated CMM for in process inspection
  • Custom wash and blow-off station
  • Custom workholding designed and built by ITI
  • Robotic automation for tending the entire system
  • Custom vision system designed and built by ITI
  • CNC programs, cutting tools and tool life management all completed by ITI

Results:

  • The system designed and built by ITI was able to run 8 parts per hour
  • The robotic automation solution was able to run completely unattended for over 8 hours
  • Raw forgings were placed on the infeed conveyor
  • Forgings were machined, deburred, washed and inspected parts went on the outfeed conveyor
  • Kemco shipped finished parts with no operators touching the parts
  • Kemco was able to earn a new contract that they would not have been able to win without the ITI solution
